The Artful Dodger Actors Share Set Secrets

Must read

Artful Dodger actors David Thewlis and Thomas Brodie-Sangster have shared stories about their time on sets, revealing fun behind-the-scenes secrets. Both stars play convicts transported from London to Australia in the Disney TV series Artful Dodger. The show follows their characters Jack Dawkins and Norbert Fagin as they continue their thieving adventures in Port Victory.

Thomas Brodie-Sangster, known for his role in Love Actually, admitted he once accidentally took home part of his Game of Thrones costume. “It was unintentional. I didn’t mean to steal it, but a belt somehow ended up with me,” he explained while promoting Artful Dodger season two. Brodie-Sangster played Jojen Reed in seasons three and four, helping Bran Stark understand his prophetic powers. He admits he does not even know where the belt is now but still has it.

Meanwhile, David Thewlis, famous as Remus Lupin in Harry Potter, revealed a more sentimental keepsake. He took his character’s wedding ring from set and had it copied in gold for his personal use. “We couldn’t steal anything else from Harry Potter, but I loved the ring so much,” Thewlis said. He also admitted keeping a few props from Artful Dodger after receiving encouragement from the director.

The actors lived in Bondi while filming both the first and second seasons of the series in Sydney. They praised their Australian co-stars, including Luke Bracey, Miranda Tapsell, and Tim Minchin, calling them lifelong friends. Thewlis recalled that his previous experiences in Australia were less enjoyable, including a troubled shoot for The Island of Dr. Moreau in Cairns. He added that filming Artful Dodger helped him fall in love with Australia and the ocean.

Brodie-Sangster also enjoyed discovering the coast, describing it as a new experience for someone who grew up in London. He loved the atmosphere and learned about local culture through his Australian colleagues. Both actors joked about Australian myths, such as drop bears, and laughed about their newfound knowledge.

Artful Dodger returns for its second season on Disney+ starting February 10. The show continues to follow Jack Dawkins and Norbert Fagin’s adventures, blending crime, comedy, and historical drama in the Australian setting. Fans can expect more behind-the-scenes stories and playful moments from the cast.
