Brooklyn Beckham publicly criticised his parents, David and Victoria Beckham, accusing them of controlling his life.
The 26-year-old shared a six-page statement on Instagram. He said he does not wish to reconcile and stands up for himself for the first time.
In recent months, Brooklyn and his wife, Nicola Peltz, 31, skipped major family events. This included David Beckham’s 50th birthday and knighthood celebrations.
He accused his parents of prioritising publicity and endorsements over family. Being with Nicola, he added, has brought peace and relief after years of severe anxiety.
Brooklyn claimed Victoria Beckham, who runs her own fashion brand, cancelled Nicola’s wedding dress at the last minute. She also hijacked their first dance, leaving him embarrassed. The couple decided to renew their vows privately last year.
He criticised his parents’ attempts to influence financial and personal decisions. Brooklyn said they pressured him to sign away rights to his name before the wedding, which would have affected him, Nicola, and future children. He refused and noted they never treated him the same afterward.
The eldest Beckham described numerous instances of interference. His mother reportedly called him “evil” for including close relatives at the wedding. He also claimed his parents instructed his siblings to attack him online, and eventually his brothers blocked him without warning.
Brooklyn recounted how Victoria interrupted his planned first dance with Nicola. The incident left him humiliated in front of 500 guests. He emphasised that he and Nicola wanted joyful memories free from anxiety.
He added that his family repeatedly disrespected Nicola, inviting past acquaintances to make them uncomfortable. Visits to London and Los Angeles, he said, were rejected unless highly publicised.
Brooklyn argued that “Brand Beckham” and public appearances often came before private family bonds. He said he had been controlled by his parents most of his life. Since stepping away, his anxiety has lifted, and he now values privacy and happiness for himself, his wife, and their future family.
He concluded by rejecting claims that Nicola controls him. Instead, he stated that he has taken control of his life and intends to live independently of image, press, or manipulation.
