Former ‘Celebrity Big Brother’ star Chantelle Houghton has spoken openly about embracing single life and her decision to prioritise her role as a mum, following past experiences that left her feeling “lonely” in relationships.
Nearly two decades after rising to fame as a non-celebrity who won over viewers’ hearts on the reality show in 2006, Chantelle says she is now content to live quietly and independently. At 41, the reality favourite is dedicating her time to raising her 12-year-old daughter, Dolly, whom she shares with ex-partner Alex Reid.
Reflecting candidly on her relationship status, Chantelle shared: “I have spent a lot of my time alone, looking after my little girl. I’ve always said I’d rather be sitting on the sofa by myself than be with someone and feeling lonely, because there’s nothing worse.” She emphasised that she’s happy on her own, and not looking for a partner simply to feel fulfilled.
“I’m not one of those people who wants to be with someone just for the sake of it,” she explained, adding she isn’t actively looking for romance. “I don’t need someone else to feel whole. If a relationship happens naturally, that’s great—but I’m happy by myself.”
Since rising to fame on the popular reality show in 2006 and becoming a household name through her marriage and high-profile split from Ordinary Boys singer Preston, Chantelle has largely stepped back from the limelight. Now, she admits she’s not actively seeking romance, nor is she interested in dating apps or rushed encounters.
“I’d prefer it to happen naturally,” Chantelle added. “I’m not actively looking, and I’m definitely not interested in dating apps or forcing something.”
She also spoke candidly about her previous experiences, highlighting the importance of genuine companionship over relationships that left her feeling isolated or unhappy. Chantelle concluded by affirming her contentment in being single and emphasised that her main focus remains on her daughter Dolly and her own personal happiness.
