Visa-Free Entry: China Welcomes UK and Canada

Must read

China now allows British and Canadian citizens to enter the country without a visa, starting this Tuesday. This change brings the total number of countries eligible for visa-free entry to 79. Officials say the move aims to boost tourism and encourage business travel.

Previously, visitors from many countries faced a complex visa application process. The new policy simplifies travel for business executives, tourists, and those visiting friends or family. Visitors from the UK and Canada can now stay for up to 30 days without applying for a visa.

Moreover, most European nations already qualify for visa-free entry. Several countries from Latin America, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East also benefit from the program. Citizens from some countries, including the United States and Indonesia, may enter visa-free for 10 days if they are in transit. This means they must have onward tickets to a third country.

Business leaders have welcomed the change. They said the previous visa process often caused delays and extra administrative work. Tourists also expressed relief, noting that travel plans are now simpler and more flexible. Consequently, China hopes to attract a higher number of international visitors this year.

The expansion follows diplomatic visits to China last month by UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney. Both leaders have recently taken office and aim to strengthen ties with Beijing after a period of strained relations. Analysts say visa-free entry reflects a broader push to enhance trade and cultural exchanges.

For most eligible countries, the visa-free access will last until the end of this year. Authorities note that the policy has been extended in the past, indicating that further renewals remain possible. Tourists and business travelers are encouraged to confirm their travel plans and stay dates to comply with regulations.

Meanwhile, China’s tourism and hospitality sectors anticipate a significant boost from the move. Hotels, airlines, and local attractions may see increased demand as international travelers take advantage of simplified entry rules. Additionally, visa-free entry could strengthen business collaborations between Chinese companies and foreign partners.

Overall, the new visa-free entry policy represents a major step in China’s efforts to make travel and trade more convenient. Observers expect further expansions as the country continues to promote international exchange and global economic engagement.
