A report led by Jeremy Corbyn has called for an investigation into UK ministers by the International Criminal Court over alleged crimes in Gaza.
The findings come from a tribunal set up to examine Britain’s role in the conflict. According to the report, the UK may have contributed to “atrocity crimes.”
In some cases, it suggests direct participation.
Furthermore, the tribunal says officials failed to meet their duty to prevent genocide. It also claims the UK supported Israel through arms sales and intelligence sharing. The panel heard evidence from journalists, medics, academics and legal experts. Survivors and whistleblowers also gave testimony.
As a result, the report urges the ICC to investigate UK officials linked to these actions. In response, Corbyn said the tribunal aims to support the campaign for justice. He added that it will serve as a record for future generations.
He also highlighted Britain’s strategic role. This includes the RAF base at Akrotiri and intelligence cooperation. Meanwhile, Corbyn warned that these actions have harmed the UK’s global standing. He said they have weakened support for human rights and international law.
Co-author Shahd Hammouri described the situation as a “red line.” She argued that senior UK figures have distorted legal frameworks. In addition, she warned that a lack of accountability could increase conflict risks. She pointed to Gaza, the West Bank, Lebanon and Iran.
Professor Neve Gordon also called for action. He stressed that the UK’s conduct sets a dangerous precedent. Ultimately, he said accountability is key to preventing future abuses.
So far, the UK government has not responded to the report.
