From Food Banks to Business Success: How One Woman Transformed Her Life After Reality Show Experience

Living on just £80 a week and relying on food banks to feed her family, Katy Goff was desperate for a change. Now, the 28-year-old is the proud owner of a booming property firm, crediting her transformation to her appearance on the reality show Rich House, Poor House.

Katy and her partner, Luke Wellfair, from Dursley, Gloucestershire, struggled to make ends meet while raising their three-year-old son, Milo. Burdened by £5,000 worth of debt and unable to afford car repairs, the couple faced constant financial hardship. Their limited income meant they couldn’t buy essential furniture or new toys for their child.

Katy, who has multiple health conditions including fibromyalgia, endometriosis, polycystic ovary syndrome, and premenstrual dysphoric disorder, found it difficult to maintain stable employment. She often needed assistance with daily tasks such as walking or getting out of the bath.

“I was a carer and disabled, and I thought, ‘This can’t be my life forever. I need something to change,’” Katy shared. “I always wanted to go into property, but I just thought no one would employ me because of my illnesses. It is really hard to prove to people that I am actually poorly, and I kept getting fired from jobs because of my disabilities.”

Despite the challenges, Katy took a leap of faith by participating in Rich House, Poor House, a show where two families from vastly different financial backgrounds swap homes, budgets, and lifestyles for a week. The experience provided Katy and Luke with valuable insights and motivation, ultimately inspiring her to start her own property business.
