In an awkward tech mishap, shadow justice secretary Robert Jenrick accidentally added hundreds of political contacts including senior Tories like Kemi Badenoch and former cabinet ministers to a WhatsApp group meant to promote his London Marathon charity run.
The group was quickly deleted after the error, with Conservative leader Badenoch joking, “Yes and then no, I think is the correct answer to that,” when asked about her brief membership. Reform UK chairman Zia Yusuf quipped on X that Jenrick seemed to have added “his entire contact book.”
Jenrick, running for military charity SSAFA, clarified he had intended to message individuals separately. The Conservatives confirmed the incident was personal, not a party data issue. Screenshots showed one message jokingly declaring “RJ for PM,” though Badenoch dismissed leadership rivalry concerns, focusing instead on local election campaigning.
