Three more suspects have been arrested in connection with the arson attack on Jewish community ambulances in north-west London. Police detained two British men, aged 19 and 20, and a 17-year-old dual British-Pakistani national at separate east London addresses on Wednesday. Officers suspect them of conspiring to commit arson with intent to endanger life. Additionally, they are searching the suspects’ homes for evidence and explosives.
The attack occurred in the early hours of March 23. Arsonists set fire to four Hatzola ambulances, a volunteer-led service in Golders Green. Consequently, gas canisters inside the vehicles exploded, causing severe damage and temporarily halting local emergency responses. Residents expressed shock, and volunteers called for stronger protections for community services.
Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer responded quickly. He urged all communities to unite against hate crimes and described the attack as a “horrific antisemitic act.” Meanwhile, Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis criticized the perpetrators, calling the attack on Hatzola volunteers “particularly sickening.” He emphasized the vital role these ambulances play in the Jewish community.
Police continue to investigate. They are reviewing CCTV footage, conducting interviews, and coordinating with fire experts. Furthermore, officers warned that the suspects could face serious charges. Authorities encouraged witnesses to provide information promptly.
Community leaders have rallied to support Hatzola volunteers. As a result, local residents donated money and resources to help the service resume operations. Volunteers praised emergency responders for quickly controlling the fires. Additionally, community members stressed that they will remain resilient despite the attack.
Earlier arrests had also occurred in connection with the incident. Therefore, police cautioned that further arrests might follow as the investigation progresses. Officials asked the public to stay alert and report suspicious activity. Leaders hope these arrests will demonstrate that attacks on essential services will not go unpunished.
The arson attack sparked discussions about safeguarding emergency services and preventing antisemitic violence. Authorities promised to hold the perpetrators accountable. Consequently, the Jewish community hopes these measures will restore confidence and prevent future attacks.
