The Labour Party has taken disciplinary action by suspending 11 councillors following an investigation into messages shared in a WhatsApp group.
Party officials launched the investigation after concerns were raised about the content of messages exchanged between the councillors. The suspensions are pending a full internal investigation into the matter.
A Labour Party spokesperson said: “We take all complaints seriously and have suspended these councillors while we conduct a thorough investigation. The Labour Party is committed to maintaining the highest standards of conduct among its representatives.”
The affected councillors will remain suspended from the party while the investigation proceeds, though they can continue their council duties as independents.
