Legend of Zelda Movie Casts Rising British Stars as Link and Zelda

Nintendo has officially revealed the Legend of Zelda movie cast, with two young British actors securing the lead roles. Bo Bragason, known for Renegade Nell, will play Princess Zelda. Meanwhile, Benjamin Evan Ainsworth, star of Pinocchio, takes on the role of Link.

The announcement came via a post on X from Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto, who expressed excitement about seeing the duo on the big screen. This marks the first major film adaptation of the beloved video game series. It follows a short-lived 1989 animated show.

Bo Bragason, 21, has built an impressive resume with roles in Renegade Nell, Three Girls, and horror films like Censor. Meanwhile, 16-year-old Benjamin Evan Ainsworth gained fame for his voice work in Disney’s Pinocchio. Additionally, he performed in The Haunting of Bly Manor.

Fans are already speculating how the film will handle key character traits—particularly whether Link, famously silent in the games, will speak. Wes Ball, director of Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, is helming the project. He has described his vision as a balance between epic fantasy and lighthearted charm.

“I want it to be a serious movie, but also fun and whimsical,” Ball told Total Film. “It should feel like a real adventure, something that immerses fans in Hyrule.”

The Legend of Zelda franchise has sold over 150 million copies since its 1986 debut. While video game adaptations have had mixed success, recent hits like The Super Mario Bros Movie and The Last of Usseries have raised expectations.

Produced by Miyamoto and Marvel veteran Avi Arad, the film is set for release on May 7, 2027. This is a date originally reserved for Avengers: Secret Wars before its delay.

With the Legend of Zelda movie cast now confirmed, anticipation is building. Will this live-action adaptation capture the magic of the games? Fans won’t have to wait long to find out.
