Prosecutors have charged three suspects in a serious ambulance arson attack targeting Jewish community vehicles in north London. The ambulance arson attack took place in the Golders Green area during the early hours of March 23. Meanwhile, authorities continue to investigate the wider circumstances surrounding the ambulance arson attack.

Police identified the accused as Hamza Iqbal, 20, Rehan Khan, 19, and a 17-year-old boy. Officers arrested all three at separate locations across London earlier this week. Additionally, authorities confirmed that two suspects hold British citizenship, while one holds dual British-Pakistani nationality.

The incident unfolded shortly before 2 a.m. in a synagogue car park. Attackers set fire to four ambulances operated by Hatzola, a volunteer emergency service. As a result, flames engulfed the vehicles and caused explosions from gas equipment stored inside.

Emergency crews quickly responded and brought the blaze under control. However, the damage severely disrupted local emergency services. Investigators later confirmed that the suspects face charges of arson with intent to damage property while endangering life.

At Westminster Magistrates’ Court, the three defendants appeared for an initial hearing. They did not enter pleas and remain in custody. Meanwhile, police arrested a fourth suspect at the courthouse during the proceedings.

Counterterrorism officers are leading the investigation due to the nature of the incident. Although authorities have not formally classified the case as terrorism, they are examining possible extremist links.

Reports suggest that a group claiming ties to Iran has taken responsibility. However, officials have not verified that claim and continue to gather evidence. Therefore, investigators are focusing on establishing clear motives and connections.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer condemned the attack soon after it occurred. He described it as a “horrifying” act and pledged to combat antisemitism. He added that an attack on the Jewish community affects the entire country.

Community members have expressed shock and concern following the incident. Nevertheless, many residents have shown strong support for the affected ambulance service. Local volunteers praised emergency responders for their swift action.

Earlier arrests included two additional suspects aged 45 and 47. Authorities later released them on bail while investigations continued.

Commander Helen Flanagan of Counter Terrorism Policing London highlighted the importance of community cooperation. She confirmed that officers are working closely with local teams to ensure public safety.

The case remains active as authorities pursue further leads. Meanwhile, the court process will continue as prosecutors prepare their case.
