Macron to Visit UK Before Trump in Rare State Visits Report

Must read

French President Emmanuel Macron is set to make his first state visit to Britain at the end of May, reportedly ahead of Donald Trump’s expected trip in September. According to The Sunday Times, King Charles III extended the invitation to Macron, marking his first official state visit to the UK since taking office eight years ago. Few government and royal officials are said to be aware of the full details of the engagement.

The timing comes as Trump hinted that Buckingham Palace is preparing for his own state visit in September, calling it a “Trump-fest” and claiming it would be unprecedented for a leader to receive two such honors. Traditionally, former U.S. presidents like George W. Bush and Barack Obama have been invited for smaller engagements, such as tea or lunch at Windsor Castle, rather than full state visits. However, Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer personally delivered an invitation from the King during a February meeting at the White House, which Trump described as “truly historic.”

Both Macron and Trump’s visits are expected to take place at Windsor Castle due to ongoing renovations at Buckingham Palace. Initially, there was speculation that Trump’s visit might occur at Balmoral or Dumfries House, but Windsor now appears to be the chosen venue.
