No 10 Confirms Starmer’s Stance: Trans Women Not Recognized as Women

Must read

Downing Street has stated that Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer does not consider transgender women to be women, aligning with a recent UK Supreme Court ruling that legally defines a woman based on biological sex.

During his tenure as opposition leader in March 2022, Starmer asserted “a woman is an adult female, and trans women are also women,” claiming this position reflected existing law. However, last week’s Supreme Court decision explicitly clarified that the Equality Act recognizes a woman solely as someone biologically female.

Pressed on whether Starmer still held his previous view, his spokesperson responded, “No. The Supreme Court has ruled that, for the purposes of the Equality Act, a woman is defined by biological sex.” The spokesperson underscored that the judgment was legally binding.

Additionally, the ruling confirmed that those assigned male at birth but identifying as women are not entitled to enter female-only spaces or services by default.
