Patrick Kielty marriage struggles have been revealed after the TV host admitted he didn’t feel like an equal partner in his 12-year marriage to Cat Deeley. The couple announced their separation this week, citing “rough patches” in their relationship. During a 2023 podcast appearance, Kielty openly discussed their dynamic, joking that he initially believed they had a 50/50 partnership. However, he later realized he felt more like a “junior shareholder” in their marriage.
The 54-year-old comedian explained how major decisions often seemed weighted toward Deeley’s preferences, including their 2020 move from Los Angeles back to London. “It was Cat who more wanted to do that,” he admitted, noting how she left her successful U.S. career behind. When asked if they were at their happiest during the podcast recording, Kielty responded candidly: “10 years into marriage, it is something you work at.” He emphasized that marriage requires constant effort, especially after having children.
Their challenges became more visible earlier this year when Deeley, 48, didn’t attend Kielty’s mother’s funeral. Reports suggested she stayed home to support their two sons, Milo, 9, and James, 7, through the loss. The pair first met in 2002 while co-hosting Fame Academy, but romance didn’t blossom until a decade later. Their love story began when Kielty made a grand gesture—flying from Belfast to Los Angeles for Deeley’s birthday brunch.
They married in Rome in 2012 and spent over a decade in California before relocating to London. The move came partly due to safety concerns after Kielty experienced a terrifying gun incident at an LA mall. Last year, Kielty spoke about the difficulties of managing their high-profile careers. When Deeley filmed in Atlanta for seven weeks over Christmas 2023, he admitted it created a “tricky” period for their family. Despite their separation, the couple remains committed to co-parenting their children.
