Prince Harry Reveals ‘Selfish’ Joy Over Princess Eugenie’s Engagement in Memoir Spare

Must read

Prince Harry has candidly admitted to feeling “selfishly” overjoyed when Princess Eugenie announced her engagement to Jack Brooksbank—revealing that the timing of her wedding worked out perfectly for him and Meghan Markle.

The Duke of Sussex opened up about the emotional moment in 2018 when his cousin Eugenie shared the news. At the time, Harry and Meghan had just discovered they were expecting their first child, Archie, and were preparing for their first official overseas royal tour as a married couple.

“Euge was getting married, to Jack, and we were deliriously happy for her and for ourselves, selfishly, since Jack was one of our favourite people,” Harry wrote.

The couple were originally scheduled to leave for the tour before the wedding, but decided to delay their departure so they could attend Eugenie and Jack’s nuptials. While Harry’s honest reflection has been seen by some as light-hearted and affectionate, others have interpreted it as highlighting how the Sussexes occasionally prioritised personal happiness over royal protocol.

Princess Eugenie, who turns 35 today (Sunday, March 23), has remained one of Harry’s closest allies within the Royal Family. Their enduring bond has been evident over the years, with Eugenie being one of the few royals to visit Harry and Meghan in the U.S. following their step back from royal duties.

The wedding, held in October 2018 at St George’s Chapel in Windsor, came just months after Harry and Meghan’s own royal celebration at the same venue. It was a joyous moment for the royal family—one that, as Harry revealed, held even more personal meaning for him and Meghan during a pivotal time in their lives.
