Lily Sastry, daughter of comedy legend Rowan Atkinson, has broken her silence on the emotional turmoil she faced following her parents’ high-profile divorce nearly a decade ago.
The Mr. Bean star, now 70, was married to BBC makeup artist Sunetra Sastry for 24 years before their marriage ended in 2015. The split, granted on the grounds of Rowan’s “unreasonable behaviour,” marked a significant shift in the family dynamic. Since then, Atkinson has been in a relationship with actress Louise Ford, 44.
Now 30, Lily has spoken candidly about the emotional impact of the divorce in a personal message shared with her followers. Describing her twenties as a period of “chaos and loneliness,” she reflected on how the breakdown of her family affected her sense of identity and belonging.
“I went through so much chaos and loneliness in my twenties,” Lily revealed. “Now I am 30, I can see clearly where I was at and what was happening inside me during the darkest days. I was so lost, and only really started to feel vaguely normal in my late twenties.”
She also shared her feelings of being “trapped between worlds,” explaining how the experience left her struggling to find a sense of home or connection. Following the divorce, Lily distanced herself from the Atkinson name, choosing to adopt her mother’s surname, Sastry.
Over the years, Lily explored different creative paths — including burlesque and music — before stepping into the art world. She recently launched her debut art exhibition in December, marking a new chapter in her personal and professional life.
“It’s hard to find out who you are in the midst of no friends, a broken family, and no idea how to navigate making music and trying to understand the world,” she added in her heartfelt note.
Lily’s words have sparked support from fans and followers who have praised her honesty and resilience in the face of adversity.
