Ryan Gosling Champions London’s Urban Foxes During Radio Interview

Must read

Ryan Gosling, 45, shared his unusual opinion about foxes in London during a BBC Radio 1 segment with Greg James.

The star, known for roles in Barbie and Project Hail Mary, said Londoners are “not celebrating the foxes enough.” He called them “cool as hell” and compared them to celebrities in hotel rooms.

“I think they are such an inspiration,” Gosling told the host. “They were hunted, and now they have free rein of the city.” He suggested souvenir stores sell fox-themed merchandise, imagining them leaning against Big Ben in monocles and top hats.

Greg James reacted with surprise, calling the opinion “incredible.” Fans on social media had mixed reactions. Some, like Emma-Jane Dundas, joked about hearing foxes at 3 a.m., while others, such as Kelly Kilfeather, fully supported Gosling, saying foxes should appear on banknotes.

Fox hunting has been illegal in the UK for over 20 years, but trail hunting remains legal. Despite this, Gosling praised the urban fox population for thriving in London.

Gosling and his partner Eva Mendes, 52, moved to Hampstead last year with their daughters Esmerelda and Amada Lee. The family relocated from Santa Barbara while he filmed Star Wars: Starfighter.

The actor has lived in London before, including in Notting Hill while filming Project Hail Mary. Residents say the family has been warmly received at school gates and local restaurants.

Gosling’s upcoming film Project Hail Mary, directed by Shawn Levy, stars Amy Adams, Matt Smith, and Mia Goth. It will premiere in May 2027. Early reviews praise Gosling’s performance for blending charm, humor, and depth, calling it “acclaimed” and “endearing.”

This BBC Radio 1 segment highlights Gosling’s playful side and his fondness for London wildlife, reminding fans that even A-list actors can champion urban foxes.
