Television personality Ashley James has openly explained a personal choice. She strongly defended her separate bedrooms decision with her long-term partner. Ashley appeared on ITV’s This Morning to discuss her unusual sleeping arrangement. She lives with partner Tommy Andrews, and they have two children together. However, they do not share a bed or even a bedroom.
Ashley, 38, stated the setup mainly benefits her own well-being. She values her personal space after living alone for six years before their relationship. She believes this separate bedrooms decision actually strengthens their bond. Ashley joked that if they shared a bed, they might have separated by now. She needs her own space to recharge and unwind effectively.
The former Made in Chelsea star described their incompatible sleep habits. For instance, Tommy prefers the duvet around his waist. Conversely, Ashley likes it over her head. He goes to bed early, while she stays up late on her phone. These differences make sharing a bed challenging. Therefore, their separate bedrooms decision prevents nightly arguments.
Hosts Ben and Cat appeared surprised by her confession. Ben questioned the timing, suggesting separate rooms are for older couples. He personally values the connection of sharing a bed with his wife. Despite this, Ashley defended her separate bedrooms decision as practical for their current life stage. With young children who wake up at night, they can “tag team” parenting duties. This way, both parents are not exhausted simultaneously.
Ashley emphasized that the arrangement is functional for their family. The children still climb into bed with both parents. Tommy even has the larger bedroom of the two. She sees it as a key to their successful six-year relationship. Playfully, she added that in relationships, “the further away the better.”
This is not the first time Ashley has discussed this topic. Previously, some social media followers criticized the arrangement. One commenter ominously predicted, “divorce is coming.” However, Ashley continues to defend their separate bedrooms decision. She frames it as a positive choice for their family’s harmony and her mental health.
