Sophie Turner on Thrones Spin-Off

Must read

Sophie Turner has revealed she will not be watching the new Game of Thrones spin-off, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, due to anxiety connected to the show.

Turner, who played Sansa Stark in the original series, explained that even hearing the iconic theme tune triggers “crazy anxiety.” She admitted she does not know why she feels this way, despite having “the best time” on the original show.

During a red carpet appearance for her new Prime Video thriller Steal, Turner discussed the upcoming spin-off. The show, based on George R.R. Martin’s Tales of Dunk and Egg novellas, follows squire Ser Duncan the Tall, or Dunk, played by Peter Claffey.

Turner said, “If I am totally honest, anything Game of Thrones, I don’t think I can handle. I can’t even hear the theme tune.” She added, “I had the best time on that show, but I can’t watch anything related to it.”

Despite her anxiety, Turner expressed support for the cast and crew. “I’m really excited for all the actors on it, and I think it will be incredible because it is that universe. So, good luck to everyone involved. I won’t be watching it, but I’ll be rooting for you.”

Her comments mirror those of former co-star Emilia Clarke, who played Daenerys Targaryen. Clarke recently confirmed she no longer wishes to appear in fantasy productions, joking she would never get “on a dragon” again.

Turner and Clarke are not alone in feeling cautious about revisiting the world that brought them fame. The intense fan scrutiny and the show’s high stakes contributed to the stress associated with revisiting the series.

Critics have begun reviewing the spin-off independently. In a three-star review, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms was described as “a very different beast from the first.” Unlike House of the Dragon, which focused on political intrigue and dynastic battles, the prequel offers a smaller story with humorous moments and witty dialogue.

While sophie turner chooses not to watch, fans remain eager for the series. Many appreciate Turner’s honesty about her experience and continue to celebrate her work in the original show.
