British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met in Rome following the Pope’s funeral, vowing to sustain efforts toward a lasting peace in Ukraine. The leaders discussed recent progress in negotiations and agreed to work closely with international partners to advance the next stages of diplomacy.

The two held a private 15-minute conversation while walking through the gardens of the Ambassador’s residence, followed by a 20-minute meeting with their delegations. Their talks came as diplomatic efforts intensify, with U.S. President Donald Trump also engaging in a 15-minute discussion with Zelensky before the funeral service.

Zelensky described his meeting with Trump as “good” and “symbolic,” suggesting it could hold historic significance. This follows a recent meeting between U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff and Russian President Vladimir Putin, signaling ongoing high-level negotiations.

Meanwhile, Prince William represented King Charles III at the funeral, marking his most prominent duty as heir to the throne. He briefly spoke with Trump, First Lady Melania Trump, and French President Emmanuel Macron during the event.

Pope Francis, who passed away at 88, was honored by an estimated 250,000 mourners in St. Peter’s Square.
