The Staying Relevant podcast continues to climb new heights. Sam Thompson and Pete Wicks, the beloved hosting duo, recently won their first major award at the TRIC Awards. Their popular podcast, which has grown steadily in recent years, earned the long-awaited recognition to the delight of loyal fans.
Sam and Pete first met on Celebs Go Dating back in 2018. Since then, they have remained inseparable. Their bond, filled with laughter and trust, has become the heart of their podcast’s success. The Staying Relevant podcast thrives on that chemistry.
During an interview after their win, Pete credited their lasting friendship to deep trust. “I trust Sam with my life,” he said. Sam agreed, saying working with his best mate keeps everything enjoyable and simple.
Although both men are currently single, they hinted at the possibility of becoming each other’s wingmen this summer. Both went through recent breakups, making the timing ideal for some lighthearted fun. Despite personal setbacks, the TRIC award brought a wave of joy.
Sam was thrilled. “We’ve never won anything in our lives,” he said. Pete joked about being a “miserable wally” next to Sam’s upbeat nature. “Sam makes me a better man,” he added. Fans love the contrast between Pete’s sarcasm and Sam’s endless energy.
The podcast has been nominated for several awards in the past. However, this was its first win. The pair said they had no expectations going into the evening. In fact, they arrived in a limo just for laughs, thinking it would be ironic to go home in style as losers. Instead, they left winners.
The duo insists they still don’t feel relevant. Pete joked, “We’re still a couple of wallies, even after a decade in this industry.” Sam, now sporting a dyed mullet, laughed and said he’s doing all he can to stay trendy.
Looking ahead, the Staying Relevant podcast will go live at London’s iconic O2 Arena this September. The show has already sold out. The pair are also releasing a book soon, though they remain tight-lipped on the details.
Pete summed it up best: “Recording the podcast is the best part of my week because I get to do it with my best friend.”
