John Swinney has condemned the antisemitic attack on Jewish charity ambulances in London, saying he was “horrified” by the incident.
Police responded quickly after the antisemitic attack unfolded in Golders Green during the early hours of Monday. When officers arrived at around 1.45am, they discovered four ambulances on fire. The vehicles belonged to the Hatzola community charity, which serves local Jewish residents. Shortly afterwards, fire crews brought the blaze under control. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
However, the incident has raised serious concerns across the country. As a result, authorities have launched a full investigation into the cause of the fire. The Metropolitan Police confirmed the case is being treated as a hate crime. In particular, investigators believe the antisemitic attack directly targeted the Jewish community.
At this stage, however, officials are not classifying the incident as terrorism. Meanwhile, officers continue to search for suspects linked to the fire. In response, Swinney strongly criticises the attack in a public statement. He stressed that violence and antisemitism have no place in modern society.
Furthermore, he expressed support for the Jewish community following the incident. He added that he stands in solidarity with those affected by the antisemitic attack. Meanwhile, Keir Starmer also condemned the incident. He described it as “horrific” and urged communities to unite.
In addition, Starmer called on people across the UK to stand together against hatred. He emphasises the importance of rejecting antisemitism in all its forms. More broadly, the attack comes at a time of heightened concern about hate crimes. Therefore, community leaders have urged vigilance and closer cooperation with police.
As the investigation continues, authorities are appealing for information. Ultimately, they hope to identify those responsible and prevent further incidents. For now, the focus remains on reassurance and support. Overall, leaders continue to emphasis unity in the face of this disturbing event.
