The fate of two players now rests on pure chance as The Traitors prepares to reveal its latest banishment in the series finale.
Viewers stayed on edge after the penultimate episode ended without showing who would leave the castle. The final vote created a deadlock between faithful James and traitor Rachel, which forced a dramatic twist.
Players usually leave after a majority vote at the roundtable. This time, James and Rachel received the same number of votes after two intense rounds. Host Claudia Winkleman stepped in and introduced the “chest of chance.”
She told James, 38, and Rachel, 42, that luck would now decide their future. One chest holds a shield and guarantees a place in the final. The other chest sends the player home immediately.
The moment followed a heated roundtable that placed Rachel under the spotlight. Faithful Faraaz, 22, and PhD student Jade openly questioned her loyalty. They said she stayed hidden for too long. Rachel, from Newry in County Down, joined the game as a traitor when the series began earlier this month.
Her journey has included several confrontations. Fellow traitor Fiona accused her in front of the group during a previous episode. The group later voted Fiona out after a fiery exchange. Former barrister Harriet also accused Rachel before the group banished her from the castle.
James, from Weymouth, faced his own pressure. Personal trainer Jack voted for him, along with traitor Stephen. Stephen had promised Rachel he would not write her name at the roundtable. However, he later changed his strategy after suspecting she might betray him first.
Earlier in the episode, Stephen stirred suspicion about Rachel among the other players. In a confessional, Rachel admitted she feared Stephen would sacrifice her to protect himself.
The episode ended before anyone opened the chest, leaving viewers eager for the finale. If a traitor reaches the end, they can take the full prize pot from the faithfuls. The total now stands at £76,750.
The Traitors finale airs on BBC One and BBC iPlayer on Friday at 8.30pm.
