A family outing turned to tragedy when three-year-old Louisa “Lulu” Palmisano was struck and killed by a van in Manchester city center. The driver, Rawal Rehman, 35, pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving after admitting he had taken “20 lines of cocaine” before the crash.
The incident unfolded on February 22 when Rehman ignored warning signs and collided with a tram, forcing his van onto the pavement where Lulu was walking hand-in-hand with her parents. Bystanders, including a junior doctor, rushed to help the critically injured toddler, but she succumbed to severe head trauma at the hospital.
Rehman fled the scene, flagging down a taxi before being arrested two days later. Lulu’s devastated parents described their only child as the “sweetest, kindest, and most generous little girl,” adding that her loss had left a “devastating void” in their lives.
The case has horrified Manchester residents, with city officials calling it an “unimaginable tragedy.” Rehman is awaiting sentencing for the fatal crash that cut short a young life full of promise.
