Trump Hints at September State Visit to UK at King Charles’ Invitation

US President Donald Trump has indicated that Buckingham Palace is preparing for his second state visit to the UK in September, calling it an “honour” and a historic first for a US leader.

Trump revealed the plans during a White House press briefing, stating, “They’re going to do a second. fest, and it’s beautiful the first time it’s ever happened to one person.” He added that the invitation came directly from King Charles, with whom he shares a strong rapport.

The visit, if confirmed, would break tradition, as second-term US presidents typically receive only informal royal engagements rather than full state visits. Trump’s last state visit in 2019 included a banquet hosted by the late Queen Elizabeth II.

King Charles’ invitation letter, handed to Trump by Prime Minister Keir Starmer in February, proposed discussions at either Dumfries House or Balmoral in Scotland a nod to Trump’s family ties to the region. His mother was born on the Isle of Lewis, and he plans to open a new Aberdeenshire golf course named in her honor.

The trip could bolster UK-US relations amid ongoing trade negotiations, with Starmer seeking to ease recent tariffs. Downing Street has yet to confirm the dates, but Trump’s remarks suggest preparations are underway.
