US President Donald Trump has publicly criticized Prime Minister Keir Starmer for his stance in the Middle East. Trump took to Truth Social to attack Starmer, saying the UK was “our once Great Ally” but delayed support. Trump added that the US no longer needs British military assistance because it has “already won.” He emphasized that Britain offered support too late and warned, “We will remember.” Trump also claimed the UK’s involvement in strikes against Iran was unnecessary and mistimed.
Starmer previously confirmed that Britain would not join initial US-Israel attacks on Iranian targets. The Prime Minister stressed that the UK allowed the US to use British bases for defensive operations. Trump called the British leader “not Winston Churchill,” implying he disagreed with Starmer’s cautious approach.
In response, Starmer insisted that the UK-US relationship remains strong. “The special relationship is in operation right now,” Starmer told reporters at a press briefing. He confirmed that Britain and the US coordinate intelligence and defend joint bases in the Middle East. Starmer emphasized that British forces protect both UK and US personnel through ongoing operations. He said, “We are working together 24/7 in intelligence sharing and defensive measures.”
A Ministry of Defence spokesperson confirmed British jets have been active in the region since the strikes began. The UK has deployed Typhoon jets and F-35 aircraft to intercept threats and protect civilians. Wildcat helicopters armed with anti-drone missiles have joined British forces in Cyprus to reinforce security. The Ministry added that additional personnel, air defense systems, and Typhoons have strengthened the UK’s presence. HMS Prince of Wales remains at high readiness and can deploy rapidly if required, the spokesperson said.
Starmer also published a column stressing that the nation needs seriousness, not political games, amid the conflict. Despite Trump’s criticism, Starmer’s conflict response continues to prioritize UK personnel, intelligence cooperation, and regional stability. He emphasized that Britain balances strategic support with careful engagement, ensuring defensive operations remain effective.
The Prime Minister reaffirmed that UK forces act responsibly to protect allies without entering direct combat. Starmer conflict response focuses on measured, strategic military cooperation while upholding diplomatic relations with the US.
