UK and Germany Deepen Defence Cooperation with New Military Bridging Agreement

Must read

The United Kingdom and Germany have strengthened their defence partnership through a new agreement focused on joint development of advanced military bridging systems. The deal, formalized in a “Letter of Intent” signed this week by UK National Armaments Director Andy Start and Germany’s Vice Admiral Carsten Stawitzki, commits both nations to closer collaboration on two key NATO-aligned projects.

The first initiative, known as Wide Wet Gap Crossing (WWGC) or Project TRITON, involves creating a modular bridging system capable of spanning water obstacles wider than 40 metres. This capability will be operated by a joint UK-German bridging battalion stationed in Minden, Germany, addressing a critical NATO requirement for large-scale wet gap crossings.

The second project, the General Support Bridge (GSB) or Project TYRO, focuses on developing versatile bridging solutions for rapid deployment in operational environments. The agreement marks a significant step in UK-German defence relations at a time of heightened focus on European security and military mobility.
