In a remarkable celebration of women’s achievements, the British Embassy in Kuwait hosted its annual Ramadan Ghabga on Tuesday, with a focus on the invaluable contributions of female business leaders. The event, held just days after International Women’s Day, celebrated the critical role women play in strengthening the UK-Kuwait trade relationship, which has been thriving for over 250 years.

Her Excellency Belinda Lewis, the UK Ambassador to Kuwait, emphasized the importance of this year’s Ghabga, linking the celebration to both the holy month of Ramadan and the recent recognition of women’s accomplishments globally. “This year’s Ghabga honors the many female leaders whose efforts have helped shape the enduring partnership between the UK and Kuwait, contributing to a trade relationship now worth a record £6.2 billion annually,” she said.

Naz Demir, the Country Director at the Department for Business and Trade, also spoke at the event, highlighting the ongoing contributions of female business leaders. “Tonight, we acknowledge the women who have made a lasting impact on the UK-Kuwait trade dynamic, and we remain committed to empowering the next generation of female leaders who will continue to strengthen the ties between our two countries,” Demir noted.

The evening’s theme underscored the UK’s dedication to fostering an environment of equal opportunities, where innovation, hard work, and dedication are recognized regardless of gender. This commitment was further exemplified by the recent appointment of Baroness Harriet Harman KC as the UK Special Envoy for Women and Girls. The new envoy’s role is to champion initiatives that support the advancement of women globally, ensuring that gender equality remains at the forefront of diplomatic and business relations.

The event not only celebrated the accomplishments of women in business but also reflected the close and growing relationship between the UK and Kuwait, built on mutual respect, trade, and a shared commitment to progress and innovation.
