Green Party Leader Zack Polanski Criticizes UK Military Involvement in Iran Conflict

Must read

Green Party leader Zack Polanski accused Prime Minister Keir Starmer of misleading the public about UK military ties.

Polanski argued Britain is indirectly involved in the Iran conflict through US bases on its soil. Consequently, he called for a full reassessment of the country’s military cooperation. Speaking in London, Polanski criticized the UK government for maintaining trade and diplomatic relations with Israel. He said Israel continues to benefit despite ongoing regional violence.

The Green Party leader urged stronger sanctions and a withdrawal from the UK-Israel trade agreement. Furthermore, he demanded an end to what he described as a “genocide.” Polanski highlighted the broader regional tensions involving Lebanon and Iran. He stressed that Britain must clarify its role in ongoing military operations.

He said the prime minister is “not being entirely truthful” when claiming Britain avoids involvement. “We still have UK soil and bases where US bombers fly to Iran,” he warned. The Green Party proposes separating UK military operations from American ones. For instance, Polanski suggested banning US use of British airspace and limiting joint operations.

He added that the UK should follow European allies in distancing itself from the Iran conflict. “This war is not in our name, and we want nothing to do with it,” he said. Regional tensions intensified after the US and Israel launched a joint offensive against Iran on February 28. In response, Tehran carried out drone and missile strikes across Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf countries hosting US forces.

Iran also blocked shipping in the Strait of Hormuz temporarily. However, it agreed to reopen the waterway as part of a ceasefire deal. President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday a two-week suspension of US attacks on Iran. Polanski stressed Britain must not participate indirectly during this period.

He concluded that reevaluating UK military ties is essential to protect national sovereignty, prevent further escalation, and maintain public trust.
