UK and Turkey Sign Multi-Billion-Pound Typhoon Training Deal

Must read

The United Kingdom and Turkey have signed a multi-billion-pound agreement to provide training and support for Typhoon fighter jets. This follows last year’s wider export deal. The programme now includes pilot training, maintenance support, and long-term sustainment, the government confirmed.

Under the agreement, 10 Turkish pilots and nearly 100 ground crew technicians will train in the UK. They will focus on mechanical systems, avionics, weapons, and mission systems. The deal also covers spares, simulators, support equipment, and maintenance activities. UK defence companies involved include BAE Systems, Leonardo UK, MBDA, Rolls-Royce, and Martin-Baker.

The training package follows the Typhoon export programme announced in October 2025. In addition, it links UK-based training and industrial support to Turkey’s future operation of the jets.

John Healey said the agreement expands the wider export deal. He explained: “This partnership does not just export world-leading British-built jets. It also builds alliances, grows our economy, and strengthens NATO.”

He added: “Turkey’s decision to acquire Typhoon shows confidence in British industry and jobs. This agreement brings the UK-Turkey partnership to life.”

Officials noted that the deal will sustain jobs across the UK Typhoon supply chain. Production activities occur in Lancashire, Scotland, and Bristol. More than a third of each aircraft is built in the UK. Final assembly of Turkish jets will take place at BAE Systems sites in Warton and Samlesbury.

Overall, the UK-Turkey Typhoon deal strengthens defence cooperation, supports NATO, and highlights the UK’s global leadership in military aerospace technology.
