UK and Ukraine have strengthened defence cooperation boost with new agreements signed during President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s visit to London on March 17.
First, Prime Minister Keir Starmer welcomed Zelenskyy at Downing Street, highlighting the importance of close international partnerships. Additionally, the agreements focus on producing advanced drones and integrating innovative technologies into Ukraine’s armed forces.
Moreover, the UK will fund a Centre of Excellence in artificial intelligence within Ukraine’s Ministry of Defence. The centre will receive £500,000 to support AI research, ensuring battlefield applications improve operational effectiveness.

Meanwhile, UK Defence Secretary John Healey confirmed the visit and highlighted the importance of joint planning and resource sharing. He also noted that drones, electronic warfare tools, and AI could redefine battlefield operations for both countries.
Next, Zelenskyy will continue his European tour with a visit to Spain on March 18 to meet Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez. The visit precedes the European Council meeting in Brussels on March 19–20, where Zelenskyy will discuss security matters.
