Gulf Ship Attack Reported By UK Maritime Agency

Must read

A Gulf ship attack struck a container vessel early Thursday near the coast of the United Arab Emirates, raising fresh security concerns.

The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations reported the strike after receiving alerts from the ship’s crew. Authorities said an unknown projectile hit the vessel and caused a small fire on board.

The incident occurred about 35 nautical miles north of Jebel Ali Port, one of the Gulf’s busiest shipping hubs. Officials said darkness initially limited the crew’s ability to fully assess the damage.

However, all crew members remained safe following the incident. Crew members responded quickly and managed to control the small fire shortly after the impact.

Meanwhile, investigators began examining the circumstances behind the Gulf ship attack to determine the projectile’s origin. Security officials continue to monitor shipping routes across the region as tensions increase.

The incident forms part of a growing pattern of attacks targeting commercial vessels in Gulf waters. Over the past two days, authorities recorded several strikes against cargo ships, oil tankers, and energy facilities.

These incidents followed rising tensions and a series of drone and missile attacks across the region. Earlier Wednesday, two foreign oil tankers caught fire in waters near Iraq after an Iranian strike.

Rescue teams later evacuated dozens of sailors from the damaged ships. Officials confirmed one fatality in that attack, while crews rescued 38 other sailors safely.

Elsewhere, another strike targeted a cargo vessel traveling through the Strait of Hormuz. That attack forced the crew of a Thai cargo ship to abandon the vessel after flames spread across the deck.

Additionally, two other ships reported separate targeting attempts on the same day. The recent Gulf ship attack therefore marks the sixth maritime incident reported within 48 hours.

Shipping analysts warn that continued attacks could disrupt major trade routes and global energy supply chains. The Strait of Hormuz handles a significant share of the world’s daily oil shipments.

Consequently, instability in the region can quickly influence global energy markets. Maritime security agencies have urged vessels to remain cautious while sailing through the Gulf.

Authorities also advised ship operators to report any suspicious activity immediately. Meanwhile, several international naval forces continue patrol operations to deter further attacks.

The Gulf ship attack highlights growing risks for commercial shipping in one of the world’s most critical waterways.
