Shirley Ballas Shares Her Unique Health Regimen and Strict Fitness Routine

Must read

Shirley Ballas, the 64-year-old Strictly Come Dancing judge, is renowned for her disciplined approach to health and fitness, which includes a mix of strict dieting, yoga, and unconventional eating habits. Recently, Shirley revealed the surprising strategy she uses to maintain her size 10 figure, which she admits may not be for everyone.

As she enters her sixties, Shirley acknowledges that managing her diet has become increasingly important. Reflecting on the challenges of maintaining her weight, she shared, “The first year on the Strictly Come Dancing tour, I gained ten pounds in just one month. Then I realised I couldn’t eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner anymore.”

Determined to take control, Shirley decided to forego breakfast and lunch, focusing instead on a single hearty meal in the evening. Her typical dinner consists of rice paired with lean beef or chicken, a habit that began after receiving a rice cooker as a Christmas gift from her mother. This shift also aligns with her practice of intermittent fasting, a regimen she follows diligently.

“I’ve realised the body doesn’t need as much food as I keep stuffing in my face, so I do take care of it,” she said. Shirley’s fasting routine often includes two juices during the day before enjoying a well-balanced dinner around 4 or 5 PM, prepared by her mother, Audrey.

Audrey, now 87, remains an influential figure in Shirley’s health journey. Shirley credits her mother’s meticulous approach to weight management as an inspiration, noting that Audrey keeps a close eye on her eight-stone frame and adjusts her diet as needed.

While Shirley’s strict routine provides only about 750 calories a day, far below the average daily caloric intake for adults, it works for her. She follows the popular 18-6 intermittent fasting method, which allows a six-hour eating window while fasting for the remaining 18 hours to boost fat burning.

Fitness has been a cornerstone of Shirley’s life since she began dancing professionally, earning her the title of Queen of Latin. Even now, when not teaching dance, she maintains an active lifestyle, incorporating yoga, Peloton rides, ice baths, and daily juicing to stay energized.

On the current Strictly live tour, Shirley and fellow judge Motsi Mabuse prioritize their health by hitting the gym together and ensuring they get their five-a-day through juicing. Shirley enjoys two juices daily, a habit she believes complements her overall fitness goals.

Despite her disciplined approach, Shirley allows herself small indulgences, such as a cup of coffee or a slice of cake, proving that even the strictest routines can have moments of balance.

While Shirley’s size six days are behind her—she admits it wasn’t sustainable—her commitment to health and fitness remains unwavering. With her impeccable looks and enviable energy, she continues to inspire fans, whether dazzling in a glamorous gown or commanding in a power suit.
