Frogmore Cottage Royal Could Become Prince Andrew’s Next Home

Must read

Frogmore Cottage Royal is back in the spotlight, years after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle vacated the residence.

Reports now suggest that Prince Andrew may move into Frogmore Cottage Royal, following public outrage over unpaid rent at Royal Lodge.

After giving up his remaining titles due to Virginia Giuffre’s memoirs, Andrew faces increasing pressure to relocate. Meanwhile, Sarah Ferguson reportedly wants Adelaide Cottage.

Since Prince William and Kate plan to move out next month, Adelaide Cottage may soon be available for her.

Frogmore Cottage Royal sits in the grounds of Windsor Castle, Berkshire. Notably, Queen Elizabeth gave the property to Harry and Meghan as a wedding gift.

Built in 1801, the ten-bedroom, Grade II listed property underwent a multi-million pound refurbishment before Harry and Meghan moved in 2019. Importantly, the couple repaid the refurbishment cost, which the taxpayer initially funded.

The residence lies near 17th-century Frogmore House, where Harry and Meghan held their wedding reception. Originally, Queen Charlotte built it as a secluded country retreat for herself and her unmarried daughters.

Interestingly, the name Frogmore comes from the large number of frogs on the marshy land. Later, the royal household converted the cottage into five units for staff accommodation.

Frogmore Cottage Royal appeared in the Netflix documentary Harry & Meghan, highlighting original doors, windows, and period features. Additionally, the cottage features a muted, elegant colour scheme.

Plans for an annexe for Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland, never materialised. Consequently, Harry and Meghan lived at Frogmore Cottage Royal for only one year before relocating to the United States due to royal pressures.

Currently, the Crown Estate owns both Frogmore Cottage Royal and Frogmore House. In addition, Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank stayed temporarily in 2020. Furthermore, Grand Duchess Xenia Alexandrovna lived there with her family in the 1920s.

Visitors can tour Frogmore House on specific days, while group tours of up to 15 guests require advance booking.

As the royal family adjusts its residences, Frogmore Cottage Royal may soon welcome new residents, reflecting ongoing changes in royal property use.
