The Labour government is set to release videos of deportation operations today, defending the move as necessary despite widespread criticism. The decision comes as polls indicate growing support for Nigel Farage’s Reform UK party, which maintains a strong anti-immigration stance.
Since taking office in July, Labour has intensified enforcement efforts, conducting 5,000 business raids and making nearly 4,000 arrests. The government reports deporting over 16,000 individuals, exceeding numbers under the previous Conservative administration.
Home Office Minister Angela Eagle defended the policy on BBC, stating the need to demonstrate enforcement and deter potential migrants from dangerous Channel crossings. Last year saw 38,000 people reach Britain in small boats, with over 70 deaths reported.
The move has drawn criticism from migrant advocacy groups and some Labour MPs, who compare it to the Conservatives’ “hostile environment” policy. Political analysts warn that attempting to appear tough on immigration might ultimately benefit Reform UK’s platform.
