Former Love Island contestants Olivia Hawkins and Marcel Somerville have shed light on how Islanders find moments of privacy away from the constant watch of cameras.
In earlier seasons, the show’s infamous smoking areas often served as hotspots for drama and heated exchanges. However, the rules have since tightened, with contestants now required to disclose any smoking or vaping habits before entering the villa. Those who do are granted access to a discreet zone away from the cameras, but anyone picking up the habit during the show is out of luck.
Olivia, 29, explained, “With the vaping, if you don’t declare it beforehand, you will not be allowed a vape. Even if you’re feeling stressed, you can’t just ask for one, because it will look like you’ve started vaping on the show.”
Marcel added, “Which a lot of people probably would.”
The strict policy, which aims to curb unhealthy habits and maintain a certain image for the show, has led to some Islanders bending the truth. According to the pair, some contestants falsely claim to be vapers during the application process to secure a quick escape from the high-pressure villa environment.
This candid revelation offers a glimpse into the less glamorous aspects of life on the hit reality show, where the need for a moment of calm often inspires creative solutions.
