McFly’s Tom Fletcher Rushed to Hospital After Painful Autoimmune Flare-Up

Must read

McFly star Tom Fletcher was rushed to hospital earlier this week after suffering a sudden and painful flare-up of his rare eye condition, uveitis. The 39-year-old singer took to Instagram to share the health scare with fans, revealing he was forced to make an emergency visit to The Western Eye Hospital in London.

“Not the day I had planned,” Tom wrote alongside a selfie showing visible swelling around his eye. “Uveitis sucks! My autoimmune thing flared up out of nowhere last night. Woke up feeling (and looking) like I’d been smashed in the face.”

Tom, who is married to author and presenter Giovanna Fletcher and shares three sons with her, has suffered from recurrent bouts of uveitis — a condition that causes inflammation inside the eye and can lead to vision loss if not treated promptly.

He praised hospital staff for their ongoing support, writing: “Hate having to come here but so thankful it exists! The doctors and nurses have helped me out so many times now.”

According to the NHS, uveitis symptoms include eye pain, redness, blurred vision, and light sensitivity. While treatable, it can reoccur and must be managed carefully.

Tom revealed that he is now undergoing a six-week recovery regime that includes daily steroid eye drops. This isn’t the first time the McFly frontman has experienced a flare-up. He previously documented similar incidents in 2022 and 2023, both requiring urgent medical care.

“Very grateful to have a dedicated eye A&E hospital in London,” he shared in a previous post, recalling the toll the condition has taken on his health.

As Tom recovers, fans have flooded his posts with messages of support, hoping the beloved pop star will be back to full health soon.
