UK Tests Response to Major Security Threats in National Exercise

Over 120 members of the armed forces, police, and government officials participated in a major national security exercise last week, testing Britain’s readiness for extreme emergencies such as terrorist attacks.

The three-day exercise, codenamed Octacine 2, took place from February 5-7 and simulated the deployment of military personnel to support armed police across 11 sites in Great Britain. The operation tested Operation Temperer, the nation’s contingency plan for providing military support to police during major emergencies.

Security Minister Dan Jarvis emphasized the importance of such exercises in ensuring coordinated responses between armed forces and police to protect the public. Armed Forces Minister Luke Pollard added that the exercise demonstrates the government’s commitment to maintaining national security readiness.

The simulation involved establishing a national mobilisation coordination centre and temporarily redeploying armed police officers from routine duties to respond to simulated threats, building on lessons learned from previous exercises.
