A man has died while attempting to cross the English Channel, according to Kent Police. The incident occurred on Friday morning, with the RNLI confirming that its all-weather lifeboat was deployed at 8:15 AM BST following a request from HM Coastguard. A group of individuals was later brought to Dover aboard a Border Force vessel.
Authorities reported that Kent Police were alerted at 8:25 AM after Border Force officers responded to a medical emergency on a small boat in the Channel. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. A forensic tent has since been set up outside the Dover Lifeboat Station as investigations continue.
Kent Police stated that officers are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the death and to identify the deceased so that his family can be notified. The government declined further comment, citing ongoing investigations.
The Maritime and Coastguard Agency confirmed that multiple assets, including UK Border Force vessels, RNLI lifeboats, and a Coastguard helicopter, were dispatched in response to reports of small boat activity in the Channel.
