Two Men Deny Arson Plot Targeting Prime Minister’s Properties

Two men have pleaded not guilty to plotting coordinated arson attacks. These alleged incidents targeted properties connected to the Prime Minister. Ukrainian nationals Roman Lavrynovych and Petro Pochynok face serious charges. They appeared in court via a video link on Friday. The court remanded both defendants into custody ahead of their trial. This case involves a series of fires at significant locations.

The charges specifically involve conspiracy to commit arson. Prosecutors say the men intended to endanger life. Furthermore, they acted recklessly regarding public safety. These coordinated arson attacks targeted three separate locations. All locations had connections to Sir Keir Starmer. The incidents all occurred within a short timeframe.

Firstly, a vehicle fire occurred in Kentish Town. This car previously belonged to the Prime Minister. Secondly, a fire damaged the entrance to his private home. This rental property is on the same north London street. Thirdly, flames broke out at a flat linked to him. Firefighters heroically rescued one person from this blaze.

Roman Lavrynovych is twenty-one years old. He currently resides in the Sydenham area. Petro Pochynok is thirty-five and from north London. Stanislav Carpiuc, a third man, also faces the same charge. Carpiuc did not enter a plea during this hearing. All three defendants will return to court later.

The prosecution provided an important clarification on Friday. They stated this case is not terrorism-related. However, the judge noted the alleged offenses seemed opaque. She also emphasized their clearly coordinated nature. These coordinated arson attacks must have had a motive. The justice system will now seek to determine that purpose.

The legal process for this case continues. A provisional trial date is set for April 2026. The next hearing will occur in late November. All defendants will remain in custody until then. The court utilized interpreters for the accused men. This ensures they fully understand the proceedings against them.
