Plans for £50m Artificial Surfing Lake in North London Progress

London could soon have its own “slice of the ocean inland,” as plans for a £50m artificial surfing lake in north London move forward. The Wave, the company behind the project, is aiming to develop 56 acres of land within the Lee Valley Regional Park, located in Edmonton.

While the project is still in its early stages, The Wave hopes to submit a planning application by spring. The upcoming plans will go for public consultation next month.

The vision for the site includes not only a purpose-built surfing lake but also green spaces, skateboarding areas, playparks, and facilities dedicated to health and wellbeing. Altogether, the development could transform 100 acres of land into a recreational hub.

A spokesperson for The Wave confirmed that they have signed a contract with Endless Surf to install the state-of-the-art wave-making technology. This partnership is a crucial step in bringing the project to life.

Hazel Geary, Chief Executive of The Wave, expressed her excitement about the progress of the plans. She believes that London is an ideal location for inland surfing and emphasized the importance of the site, noting that the land in Enfield has been underused for years.

“We’ve been collaborating closely with Lee Valley for a number of years, and we’re thrilled to finally see the project taking shape,” Geary said.

In addition to offering a surfing experience, the project aims to enhance biodiversity, increase green spaces, and encourage people to connect with nature.

The Lee Valley park, already known for its artificial white-water rafting centre, was also the venue for the canoe events during the 2012 London Olympics. The addition of the surfing lake would further cement the area’s reputation as a top-tier destination for outdoor and water sports.

As the project moves forward, Londoners can look forward to a new outdoor attraction that combines sport, recreation, and nature.

Lee Valley, already home to an Olympic white-water rafting center, could soon become a top destination for inland surfing. Stay tuned for to London pulse News for updates.
