A new poll reveals growing frustration among Conservative Party members, with more than half believing leader Kemi Badenoch is progressing too slowly on policy development. According to a survey of over 3,000 members by ConservativeHome, 55% think the party should accelerate its policy program, while only 39% feel the current pace is appropriate. Just 5.9% believe the Tories should take more time.
Badenoch had previously emphasized a cautious approach during her leadership campaign, suggesting it might take years to finalize detailed policy positions. However, ConservativeHome noted that Labour’s legislative agenda including measures to restrict indefinite settlement for migrant workers claiming benefits has forced her to act sooner than planned. Recent Conservative pledges include capping immigration levels and rejecting the feasibility of achieving net zero by 2050.
While the poll does not demand immediate, fully formed policies, critics question why Badenoch’s “renewal program,” which invites broad member input rather than detailed proposals, wasn’t launched earlier. The findings underscore mounting pressure on the Tory leader to deliver a clearer vision as the party gears up for future electoral battles.
