MPs Push for UK-Ukraine Defence Tech Hub to Boost Arms Delivery and British Industry

A cross-party group of MPs is urging the UK Government to support the establishment of a joint UK-Ukraine defence technology production hub, aimed at accelerating the delivery of military equipment to Ukraine while strengthening Britain’s defence manufacturing sector.

The proposal, unveiled by Fred Thomas MP, Co-Chair of the Defence Technology All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG), seeks to redirect a portion of the UK’s £3 billion annual defence support for Ukraine towards building defence production capabilities on British soil.

Describing the plan as “a strategic no-brainer,” Mr Thomas argued that the initiative would deliver faster and higher-quality military support to Ukraine, create skilled jobs in the UK, and reinforce the country’s defence industrial base.

“This would mean faster, higher-quality support to Ukraine, more British jobs, and a stronger UK industrial base ready to face future challenges,” said Thomas, who represents Plymouth Moor View.

Under the proposal, equipment manufactured in the UK would be sent directly to Ukraine, with a small reserve retained for the British Armed Forces. The MPs backing the plan believe it would streamline the supply of arms to the front lines while ensuring the UK is better prepared for future defence needs.
