Former Conservative MP Sir Michael Fabricant has revealed he received a six-figure payment for his brief appearance on the current season of Celebrity Big Brother, where he became the first contestant to be evicted.
Fabricant, who lost his Lichfield seat in last year’s general election, lasted just four days on the ITV reality show before being voted out. Speaking after his departure, the 74-year-old admitted he had expected to “loathe” the experience, but ended up finding most of the contestants “lovely.”
Although he declined to share the exact amount he was paid, citing contractual obligations, Fabricant confirmed it was a “six-figure” deal. He also shared that he had previously been approached to appear on I’m A Celebrit. Get Me Out of Here! but turned it down in order not to disappoint his constituents.
He named drag performer Danny Beard as his preferred winner but mentioned he wasn’t particularly close to fellow contestants Trisha Goddard or Patsy Palmer.
In a light-hearted moment, Fabricant reminisced about cycling naked through a London park in 2018 for charity, and said he is now campaigning for an annual nude ride in Lichfield. He even extended an invitation to Lichfield Cathedral officials, joking they could “hide their modesty with their cross.”
Fabricant confirmed he would not return to politics, apart from supporting local campaigns through leafleting.
