EastEnders Return is set to delight fans this December as Shaun Williamson reprises his iconic role of Barry Evans. The 60-year-old actor first played Barry in the BBC soap from 1994 to 2004. He will appear in a special episode centered on Nigel Bates’s dementia storyline.
Nigel, played by Paul Bradley, recently revealed his dementia struggles to Yolande Trueman, portrayed by Angela Wynter. In the upcoming episode, Barry will join step-mother Pat at The Queen Vic when Nigel’s symptoms intensify. While Barry and Pat often clashed in life, they will put aside differences to support Nigel during this emotional time.
Shaun Williamson expressed excitement about returning to Albert Square. He admitted feeling nervous but thrilled to work with old colleagues. “It was wonderful to walk back onto the set and see familiar faces,” he said. “It reminded me of why this show means so much to so many people.”
EastEnders Executive Producer Ben Wadey also commented on Shaun’s return. He called Barry Evans one of Walford’s unluckiest residents and highlighted his memorable quirks, like his shoe choices. Wadey said it was a privilege to welcome Barry back alongside Pat for these special scenes.
Pat, played by Pam St Clement, will also return for the episode. Pat first appeared in the show in 1986 and officially left in 2012 after her character died of cancer. She last returned briefly in 2016 as part of a Peggy Mitchell storyline. Pat’s return will coincide with Nigel reliving memories from the 1990s, offering him comfort during a challenging night following his festive film screening.
Pam St Clement shared her feelings about the EastEnders Return. She said she felt both surprised and delighted to return to Walford for Nigel’s dementia storyline. She described the experience as “like coming home” and enjoyed reconnecting with long-time colleagues on set.
Executive Producer Ben Wadey described Pat Evans as one of the most iconic characters in EastEnders history. He praised the combination of Barry and Pat in The Queen Vic as an emotional moment for both characters.
Barry Evans remains one of Walford’s most memorable residents. After a string of failed relationships, he met a tragic end in 2004 when he fell from a cliff. His return alongside Pat promises to blend nostalgia, drama, and heartfelt support for Nigel in this special December episode.
EastEnders Return promises fans a mix of familiar faces, emotional storytelling, and key moments that honor the show’s long-running history.
