Mathew Catherine reunion is set to delight fans as the comedy duo announce plans for a new project. The pair, who previously worked together on The Catherine Tate Show from 2004 to 2007, are preparing a special project for next Christmas.
During a Live Stage spotlight session at MCM Birmingham Comic Con on November 29, Mathew Horne, 47, shared his excitement. He said, “Working with Catherine was phenomenal. I saw her last week, and we are concocting something together for next Christmas.”
Mathew did not reveal further details about the project or what format it might take. However, fans are eagerly anticipating any announcement.
The event also gave Mathew a chance to reflect on his work on the BBC comedy series Gavin and Stacey. He starred as Gavin Shipman, husband to Stacey Shipman, played by Joanna Page. The series finale, which aired on Christmas Day 2024, drew 20.9 million viewers.
“It doesn’t feel like just another part of my career,” Mathew explained. “It feels like what has defined not only my career as an actor but also my entire life. Beyond my wildest dreams, this show has given me so much professionally and personally. I feel truly blessed.”
In addition, Mathew emphasized the importance of increasing opportunities for working-class actors. “I’m from a working-class background and grew up in a two-up, two-down in Nottinghamshire,” he said. “The opportunity to be an actor wasn’t on the table. Voices need to be heard, and more opportunities are necessary, but it will take time.”
Catherine Tate, 55, recently reprised her foul-mouthed pensioner character, Nan, for The Nan Movie in 2022. Mathew plays Jamie, Nan’s grandson, who joins her on a road trip to repair the fractured relationship with her estranged sister, Nell, played by Katherine Parkinson.
Mathew expressed his enjoyment at working with Catherine again. He described the experience as fun, rewarding, and creatively inspiring. The duo’s dynamic remains as popular as ever, promising that their new collaboration will excite audiences.
