Few events capture royal glamour quite like a King Charles banquet. The luxurious table settings, multi-course menus, and exclusive guest lists create a spectacle.
With the German state visit to the UK this week, a King Charles banquet will impress guests. Consequently, we may witness peculiar dining rules in action.
Graham Tinsley MBE, former manager of the Welsh Culinary Council Team, shared his experience catering royal events. Now, he works as Executive Chef at The Vines at Carden Park Hotel.
He explained that creating menus for a King Charles banquet is straightforward, although small quirks must be considered. “King Charles doesn’t like chocolate, coffee, or garlic,” Graham said.
Moreover, wherever he attends a banquet, King Charles brings personal items. “He always takes a silver Maldon sea salt container and his favorite cushion,” Graham added. Therefore, his place at the table is instantly recognizable.
Despite being offered world-class cuisine, the monarch enjoys certain home comforts. For instance, Graham said, “The King requires a side salad with every meal, and it must be precise.”
King Charles particularly enjoys a coddled egg, boiled for only two to three minutes. Then, he mashes the egg into salad leaves, creating a unique dressing. “Peeling a coddled egg is tricky,” Graham noted, “so we often make several at once.”
Additionally, the monarch’s quirks extend beyond food. Reports indicate he prefers loose-leaf tea in a teapot, using one teaspoon per cup plus one for the pot.
Temperature matters, too. Green tea must reach 70 degrees Celsius, whereas Earl Grey requires boiling water at 100 degrees. He even adds organic honey directly to the teapot.
Overall, a King Charles banquet combines elegance with highly personalized touches. From his coddled eggs to his silver salt container, the monarch’s dining habits remain memorable.
Therefore, royal observers and culinary enthusiasts alike can expect these unique details at upcoming state events. The King’s attention to personal preferences ensures each banquet meets his exacting standards.
