Dua Lipa Tribute To Selena

Must read

Dua Lipa tribute performances are becoming a highlight of her Radical Optimism tour. Recently, she honoured Selena in Mexico City.

The singer closed her tour at Estadio El Campín on December 5. She performed a heartfelt version of Selena’s 1992 hit ‘Amor Prohibido’.

“I chose this song because I feel a very special connection with this artist,” Lipa told the audience in Spanish.

She added that, like Selena, she identifies with belonging to two places at once. Lipa said she feels both Albanian and English.

Throughout the nine-month tour, Dua Lipa tribute shows have included covers of many legendary artists’ songs. She performed Ariana Grande in Miami and Aerosmith in Boston.

In Dublin, she paid homage to Sinéad O’Connor, while in Lyon she celebrated Daft Punk. New Zealand audiences heard her cover Lorde.

Lipa also collaborated with other musicians on stage. Billie Joe Armstrong joined her in San Francisco for ‘Wake Me Up When September Ends’.

Gwen Stefani performed ‘Don’t Speak’ in Los Angeles alongside Lipa, while Nile Rodgers joined her in New York for ‘Le Freak’.

Other notable collaborations included Chaka Khan in Chicago, Jamiroquai in London, Neil Finn in Auckland, and Kevin Parker in Sydney.

In Seattle, she teamed up with Death Cab for Cutie’s Ben Gibbard for ‘I Will Follow You Into The Dark’. In Colombia, she covered Shakira’s ‘Antología’.

Earlier this year, Lipa held two shows at Wembley Stadium. Those performances became the mini-documentary Dua Lipa – The Beat Before (Wembley Stadium).

The documentary captured behind-the-scenes moments, fan reactions, and the energy of her live shows.

The tour promotes her third studio album, Radical Optimism, which received mixed reviews. Critics praised her adventurous sonics but noted a lack of standout moments.

Additionally, Lipa has recently pursued A-level Spanish after successfully completing her GCSE exam. She continues to balance education with her music career.

Dua Lipa tribute concerts highlight her admiration for musical icons while connecting personally with audiences worldwide. The Selena performance resonated deeply.

Fans can expect more iconic tributes as Lipa completes the tour with shows at Mexico City’s Estadio GNP Seguros from December 1-5.
