Fans of Devil Wears Prada are buzzing over the first trailer for the highly anticipated sequel.
The preview opens with Runway Magazine editor-in-chief Miranda Priestly, played by Meryl Streep, sitting in her office. Meanwhile, former assistant Andrea “Andy” Sachs, played by Anne Hathaway, enters with a bright smile and a cheerful “hello.”
It has been 20 years since the first movie, so Priestly turns to her art director, Nigel Kipling (Stanley Tucci), who mutters, “Well, look what T.J. Maxx dragged in.” The icy fashion icon responds with a shrug, saying, “Sorry. Who is this? Do you know her? Do I know her?”
Sachs, now hired as Runway’s new fashion editor, replies, “I’m Andy Sachs. Andrea?” However, Priestly appears to forget her entirely.
The awkwardness continues as they meet Priestly’s former senior assistant, Emily Charlton (Emily Blunt), who now works as a rival executive competing for advertising revenue. Priestly asks, “You also know her?” Charlton dryly responds, “We were at Runway at the same time, Miranda.”
Fans have quickly reacted online. YouTube user @Kardlonoc praised Priestly “forgetting the events of the first movie because they were beneath her.” Similarly, @maxcouture9314 wrote, “Miranda pretending not to know Andy is everything.”
Instagram users joined the conversation. @diego_justdiego_ called the moment “pure comedy and so right too,” while @javieroooking commented, “20 years have already passed and they are better than ever!”
Original director David Frankel, writer Aline Brosh McKenna, and producers Wendy Finerman and Karen Rosenfelt have returned. Several new stars join the cast, including Kenneth Branagh, Justin Theroux, Sydney Sweeney, Lady Gaga, and Lucy Liu. Costume designer Molly Rogers replaces Patricia Field.
The film appears loosely based on Lauren Weisberger’s 2013 novel, Revenge Wears Prada: The Devil Returns, focusing on a wedding magazine Priestly seeks to acquire.
Devil Wears Prada 2 is set to premiere in US and UK theaters on May 1. Fans can expect comedy, fashion drama, and the long-awaited reunion of iconic characters.
