A 15-year-old boy has appeared in court after police charged him over a Norwich school stabbing that left a teenage girl injured.

The incident happened at Thorpe St Andrew School in Norwich on Wednesday morning. Police said the attack occurred at about 10:24 a.m. inside the school on Laundry Lane. Shortly after the stabbing, staff placed pupils into lockdown to protect them.

Officers quickly arrived at the scene. Soon afterward, police arrested the boy nearby. Because of legal restrictions, authorities cannot publish the suspect’s name.

The teenager appeared at Norwich Magistrates’ Court on Friday. He stood in the secure dock alongside three security officers. During the hearing, the boy spoke briefly. He confirmed his name, address, and date of birth.

However, the court did not ask him to enter pleas to the charges. Prosecutors accuse him of attempted murder and possessing a knife on school premises. Prosecutor Josephine Jones described the events during the hearing. She told the court that several emergency calls alerted police to the situation.

Meanwhile, CCTV footage reportedly captured the suspect near a toilet area. According to prosecutors, the footage shows a masked individual wearing black clothing. Jones said the person carried a carving knife with a long blade.

She also told the court that the attacker stabbed the girl in the back during the Norwich school stabbing. After the incident, the suspect fled the scene. However, officers located and arrested him shortly afterward.

District Judge Matthew Bone imposed strict reporting restrictions. As a result, media outlets cannot reveal the identities of either the suspect or the victim. The judge ordered the boy to remain in youth detention accommodation. His next court appearance will take place at Norwich Crown Court on April 10.

Meanwhile, emergency services treated the injured girl after the attack. Doctors later discharged her from hospital. Authorities confirmed that she suffered minor injuries. During the court hearing, the boy’s father sat close to the secure dock. He listened quietly as proceedings unfolded.

At the end of the hearing, the father wiped tears from his eyes.

The Norwich school stabbing has shocked the local community. Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
